Have you ever wondered how professional dancers get auditions to book gigs? If you're just getting started in the professional world, finding opportunities to work in your industry can turn into a job itself. But with the beauty of the internet, finding dance jobs can be decoded if you just know where to look. So we've created a list of places to look online when searching for auditions. If you've had a chance to check any of them out, be sure to let us know in the comments!
Backstage
One of the largest audition info sites is Backstage, which is a pay site that require you to subscribe and maintain membership in order to view castings and audition info. You can post a multimedia resume by uploading photos and video, and Backstage publishes between 800 to 1,000 top audition notices each week for every type of performance: film, stage, TV, commercials, multimedia, dance, voiceovers, and singing. Included are opportunities for both adults and children. And they post casting notices for NYC, LA, Atlanta, Chicago, San Francisco, Boston, Miami, Philadelphia, Denver, Seattle, Vancouver and more.
Dance Jobs
A lot newer than Backstage, Dance Jobs is another great online source for finding dance auditions. They are another subscription based site, with affordable subscriptions. And you can create an online portfolio with photos and video for casting agents and directors to review.
Atlanta Performs
Locally, Atlanta Performs is a great resource for finding dance jobs online in the Atlanta area. Run by the Atlanta Coalition of Performing Arts (ACPA) is the nonprofit alliance of greater Atlanta's performing arts organizations and professionals. You can find casting notices for Theatre, Musical Theatre, Dance, and Film; and you can search the castings for free.
Atlanta Dance Source
Atlanta Dance Source is another local, but online casting resource that posts dance auditions in Atlanta, as well as local industry dance news. Unlike subscription based sites, Atlanta Dance Source is a blog, and you can check out the audition notices for free. You can also subscribe to their weekly newsletter that features dance jobs and auditions as well.
