Finding dance jobs online can be tricky business, so dance directories can be an invaluable tool for success. And while you may be aware of the more popular sites like Backstage and Atlanta Dance Source, there are loads of other sources to take advantage of… such as Dance Jobs.
A new site, Dance Jobs is a free subscription based site that allows dancers to search for jobs based on location, job type, and dance style. And dancers can create a multi-media profile available to casting agents, studio directors, and producers. If you've already had a chance to read Part I: Finding Dance Jobs Online, you know we included Dance Jobs as a resource for finding dance jobs earlier on.
With almost 10,000 employers and job seekers, Dance Jobs was developed by DanceSoft's founder Ken Greer, Silicon Valley entrepreneur and dancer extraordinaire. Ken is also a board member and webmaster for USA DanceNorthern California chapter. USA Dance is the national governing body for DanceSport in the United States, as well as the DanceSport representative for the United States Olympic Committee. Ken's dance background is quite diverse, and he currently competes in International Standard Ballroom at the championship level.
Top Tips for Dance Jobs:
1. Complete Your Profile - You may not be standing in a room full other dancers competing for the same job, but you are one profile in a sea of others. So be sure to start off on the right foot by completing your profile!
2. Add Photos & Media - Once your profile is complete, you'll want to upload photos and video so that can get a feel for your type and style.
3. Check the Casting Boards - Now that your profile is complete, and you've uploaded your video, scan the casting board for jobs you may be a fit for. Submitting for a casting that requires dancers to be under 5'6, when you're 5'8 (or the other way around), will just end up being a waste of time. So do yourself a favor, and be sure to focus on the jobs you're an actual fit for.
