Start the excitement with festive invitations. There are several great options for Moana theme invitations and thank you cards fromOriental Trading to personalized printables on Etsy. Just be sure to include the date, time and location of the party on your invite. Party invitations are also a great opportunity to ask if there are any special dietary concerns for your guests. Also, parents will need to know approximate pick up times, or if they are also to attend the party. And, asking for a RSVP via phone or email by a certain date will also help you plan the party. After the party, be sure to send out thank you cards in a timely manner with the givers name, and type of gift received. If your child is old enough, have them fill out the thank you and sign the card for a special added touch.
VENUE & DECOR:
Summer parties mean additional venue ideas from swimming pools, backyards, parks and beaches - in addition to the usual club house and community hall. Of course outdoor venues are a perfect choice for Moana theme birthday parties, but well decorated indoor spaces can transform the atmosphere for a party as well. FOOD:
"Whenever you're at a luau, you are 'ohana' — family." Before contact with the western world, Hawaiians called their important feasts an 'aha'aina' (‘aha' – gathering and ‘aina – meal). These grand feasts marked special occasions such as reaching a significant life milestone, victory at war, the launching of a new canoe or a great endeavor. They believed in celebrating these occasions with their friends and families. But when your little village chief is a picky eater, you need a simple gathering meal to appease both kids and adults alike. And luckily, there's a variety of traditional, yet easy bites that can fit both the party theme, as well as the picky palate of little eaters. Try Caramelized Maui Onion Dip and Garlic Ginger Chicken Wings for starters. Kalua Pork Sliders or Teriyaki Beef Sliders would make a great and easy main bite, with Sweet Potatoes or Potato Salad on the side. And just before the birthday cake, these Micky ear shaped Haupia (Coconut) Squares are bound to be a hit.
ENTERTAINMENT:
When it comes to hosting a children's birthday party, the key is to keep the kids entertained. Aside from party games, live entertainment is another great way to wow little guests. You can take a cue from the Kardashians with a petting zoo with a pig. How low can your guests go? Using a bamboo pole, or any long stick, have two people on opposite ends hold the stick up at various heights, starting from high and ending with low. Play your favorite Hawaiian music while participants try their luck at this back-bending classic.
